Woollaston looking to go deep
Share:

Ben Woollaston has claimed some big scalps previously at the German Masters but he insists this year he wants to go deep into the competition. The 30-year-old has never made it past last-16 stage at the ranking tournament in Berlin but he has taken out some big names on his last two appearances. Shaun Murphy suffered a 5-4 defeat when they clashed in 2016 before Woollaston went on to lose 5-0 to compatriot Martin Gould, while he also dispatched Australian Neil Robertson 5-4 in 2017.

The world number 33 has again been handed a tough last-32 draw at The Tempodrom with world number three Judd Trump set to provide some extremely tough competition. Woollaston admits that it has been nice previously to see off some big names, although he insists he has greater ambitions and would love the opportunity to go deeper into the event this season.

“I don’t want to just keep winning matches, I want to go really deep in one of these big tournaments soon,” Woollaston told The Sportsman. “I’m feeling positive about my game and know that if I play my best, I’ll have a great chance. “I beat him (Trump) last week in the Championship League but that’s the only time I’ve beaten him as a professional. We played lots of times as juniors and I know what a top player he is. “I know Judd is one of the top three or four players in the world and it will be tough.”

Woollaston can be backed at 3/1 to continue his trend and pull off another shock victory at the German Masters, while Trump is priced at 2/9 to come out on top.
