Wilson looking to bounce back from disappointing European Masters
Share:

Kyren Wilson will be hoping to bounce back from his first-round exit at the European Masters by beating Gerard Greene in Shanghai Masters qualifying on Wednesday. The world number 15 has endured an up and down season to date, reaching the final of last month’s World Open, where he was beaten by Ding Junhui, although he has also suffered a number of first-round exits, most recently at last week’s event in Belgium.

The European Masters defeat was particularly notable for Wilson, as it came at the hands of Northern Irishman Greene, who secured a 4-3 success in what is the duo’s only previous meeting to date. Wilson will therefore have revenge on his mind during their qualifying match for next month’s tournament in Shanghai, an event that holds fond memories for the 25-year-old, as he was crowned champion in 2015 – his only ranking title to date.

The Warrior is priced at 1/4 to claim revenge against Greene, who is available at 14/5 to secure his progress through to the main draw. Scotland’s Stephen Maguire, who reached the semi-finals in Shanghai 12 months ago, is also in action on Wednesday evening, as he will take on the relatively inexperienced Thor Chuan Leong of Malaysia. Two-time World Championship finalist Matthew Stevens is another big name in qualifying action, as he will face Fang Xiongman of China. Stevens has not reached the main draw of the Shanghai Masters since 2013, but he is a three-time quarter-finalist at the event.
