Wilson edges Ricoh thriller
Share:

Kyren Wilson has booked his place in the final of the Champion of Champions after edging out Mark Allen 6-5 in an exciting semi-final showdown on Saturday.

The Englishman is enjoying a good season, as he has already won the Six-Red World Championship and the Paul Hunter Classic over recent months and he is now through to another final after seeing off Allen, who was chasing his second-successive tournament victory following his win at last week’s International Championship.

It was certainly a high-quality semi-final showdown as the two players shared two-century breaks and a further nine knocks of 50 or more.

After losing the first frame of the match, Wilson emerged as the player that always seemed to be in control, particularly when a break of 125 saw him open up a 5-3 lead.

However, Masters champion Allen then won the next two frames to set up a decider, but it was Wilson who held his nerve as he recorded a break of 89 to advance through to the final.

Wilson’s reward for reaching the final will be a showdown with five-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who saw off Shaun Murphy 6-3 in his semi-final encounter.

O’Sullivan has won the tournament on two previous occasions and he is priced at 1.33 claim overall glory once again on Sunday, while Wilson, who has only won one of his previous three meetings with the Rocket, is available at 3.25.
