World champion Mark Williams has eased through to the second round of the China Championship although he was not happy at being forced to play on one of the outside tables in Guangzhou.
The world number two was drawn to take on Ken Doherty in the first round in what was a repeat of his victory in the 2003 World Championship final and he had no problem in seeing off his Irish opponent 5-0.
The victory included breaks of 56, 64 and 102, but Williams suggested on Twitter after the match that he was unhappy at having to play on one of the outside tables.
“Very very very tough conditions on the outside tables AGAIN,” Williams tweeted.
The Welshman later retweeted messages suggesting that he was shown a lack of respect by tournament organisers, while he also questioned the decision to leave defending champion Luca Brecel, who lost 5-3 to Martin O’Donnell, on one of the outside tables.
Williams, who was knocked out at the quarter-final stage of the China Championship 12 months ago, will now face Englishman Gary Wilson in round two and he is priced at 1.29 to win that match, while his opponent is available at 3.40.
Wilson booked his place in round two with a 5-3 victory over Chinese teenager Fan Zhengyi, as he looks to build on what has been a successful start to the season following his run to the quarter-finals of the recent World Open.
