White hoping to spring a surprise
Share:

Fan favourite Jimmy White will be hoping to pull off a shock victory when he tries to qualify for the International Championship on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old has endured a tough start to the season after only qualifying for the Riga Masters so far. He tasted defeat during qualifying for the World Open, Indian Open, European Masters and China Championship.

On Wednesday he will come up against Ireland’s Fergal O’Brien, who remains the heavy favourite at 1.33. White is the 3.00 outsider and O’Brien has fared better so far, reaching the second round in at least four events.

Martin Gould is also in action on Wednesday and he faces China’s Zhang Yong in the afternoon session. Gould is the 1.29 favourite, with Yong available at odds of 3.40 with Dafabet.

Welsh pair Ryan Day and Lee Walker will meet in the same session, with the same odds available, with Walker the outsider.

Scotland’s Alan McManus is expected to cruise through his contest and he faces Jamie Clarke in Barnsley. McManus was last in action at the European Masters but he only reached the second round after being knocked out by Belgium’s Luca Brecel. The 47-year-old is 8.50 to win 6-0 when he plays later on Wednesday.

Another Scotland v Wales clash takes place in the same session, with Dominic Dale meeting Eden Sharav. World No.12 Marco Fu is also in action in the first game of the evening session when the 40-year-old will meet Germany’s Simon Lichtenberg.
