Trump needs focus to avoid China crisis
Share:

Judd Trump admits his mind does sometimes wander a bit from the green baize after moving through to the International Championship final with victory over Mark Selby.

Trump, 29, secured a 9-4 triumph over the ‘Jester From Leicester’ and will play either Shaun Murphy or Mark Allen in Sunday’s final.

It has been an amazing year for the Bristolian, with victory in the World Championship the undoubted highlight.

His 18-9 success over John Higgins at the Crucible was Trump’s first success in Sheffield and he has carried that form through to China, beating the likes of Scott Donaldson, Joe Perry and Tom Ford in Daqing before downing three-time world champion Selby.

He compiled three century breaks in the last-four encounter, roaring back from 3-1 down to win six consecutive frames en route to a place in the final.

It was an excellent display by the Englishman but he confessed afterwards that focus can sometimes be an issue.

“Tonight after I won the first couple I was feeling good,” he told World Snooker. “But at 8-4 I was thinking, Starbucks shuts at 9.30, I was hoping I could get there for that, then I lost the last frame before the interval I was a bit gutted about that.

“It’s so random what goes on, sometimes I can think about nothing, have a complete mind blank for the whole match and play the best of my life and other times your mind’s wandering, thinking about music and other random things.”

There is still a long way to go until the players reconvene in South Yorkshire but Trump has been installed as the 3.80 favourite to win next year’s World Championship.
