Judd Trump comes up against Kyren Wilson in the Romanian Masters on Friday in what could be a close encounter. Wilson downed Trump 6-5 in the semi-finals of The Masters before going on to finish as the runner-up behind Mark Allen. The two players are level at 3-3 in their head-to-head meetings and both could do with a win on Friday as they seek some momentum going into the World Championship in Sheffield. Trump is 9/1 to win the World Championship outright and Wilson can be backed at 33/1.
Trump enjoyed a solid start to the season and claimed the European Masters title back in October but that remains his only success this season in what has been an underwhelming campaign overall for the Bristolian. That could all change for the world number three if he takes the top prize at the Crucible and a good run in Romania would set him up nicely for a shot at a maiden World Championship but Wilson will provide a real test. The 26-year-old is enjoying his best campaign to date as he has managed three final appearances and is at a career-high 12 in the world rankings, despite the fact he has been unable to add to his one ranking title.
Trump has the greater natural talent, but Wilson has been the more consistent player and should draw confidence from his Masters success over the former world number one going into this clash. Trump is 4/9 to claim the victory or 10/3 to win 4-2, while Wilson is 17/10 to come out on top.
