Shaun Murphy happy with consistency
Share:

Shaun Murphy says he is delighted with his recent form and is hoping to maintain a high level of consistency at next month’s English Open in Barnsley. Murphy, who was crowned world champion back in 2005, is yet to pick up any silverware this season, but he has featured in two finals at the China Championship and the Paul Hunter Classic. The Englishman, who has seven ranking tournament wins to his name, was defeated by Luca Brecel in Guangzhou before again falling short at the last hurdle in Germany, losing out to Welshman Michael White.

However, despite failing to lift a trophy this term, the 35-year-old has been impressed with his performances and being able to maintain high standards has been a particularly pleasing point. “Two finals in five days is very good going and shows great consistency. I also have to reflect on the fact I lost to two very good players who were in form,” he said. “Luca beat Ronnie O’Sullivan on his way to the title and Michael beat Mark Selby. “I’ve brought a bit more consistency to my game by practising more regularly with other players. I’ve been playing a lot recently with Matthew Selt and Ben Woollaston.”

Murphy, who is 20/1 to win the 2018 World Championship, has not taken part in the Six Red World Championship this week and his attention is firmly focused on the English Open. Victory in South Yorkshire would leave him as the only player capable of securing the £1million bonus for the Home Nations series, a payout that would come about if he wins all four tournaments.
