England’s Mark Selby was given a scare but did enough to beat Zhou Yuelong on Tuesday during the second round of the Shanghai Masters.
Selby was handed a bye for the first round on Monday and his lack of consistency nearly saw the world number one knocked out of the tournament. The 35-year-old only reached the third round of the World Open and was also beaten in the last 16 of the 6 Red World Championship.
He failed to make a break of 50 or more until the ninth frame on Tuesday, while Zhou fired home a 65 and an 88 to take a 2-1 lead. However, Selby eventually found his groove and breaks of 65, 79, 50 and 64 did the damage.
Barry Hawkins was also in action on Tuesday and he was too strong for Stephen Maguire. Hawkins opened the match with a break of 91, before a 114 in frame 3 gave him a 3-0 lead. He then lost the next three frames before ending the match with breaks of 99 and 103 to win 6-3.
Both players will be back in action on Thursday but there is plenty more action to come on Tuesday.
Scottish pair John Higgins and Anthony McGill are in action and they will play Welsh duo Ryan Day and Mark Williams respectively. Williams was shocked at the 6 Red World Championship by Mohamed Shehab but he will be expected to respond this week.
