England’s Mark Selby will be looking to maintain his recent form on Thursday when he competes in the Championship League Group 4. The world number one goes into the final day at the top of the table after three terrific wins on Wednesday afternoon at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.
Selby has already claimed £900 in prize money in Group 4 and he now has a great chance of going on to win the Group.
The Jester from Leicester’s first game on Wednesday was against fellow countrymen Barry Hawkins and he recorded a 3-1 win in the best of five contest. He raced into a 2-0 lead before a break of 50 allowed Hawkins to reduce the deficit.
Selby then fired home a break of 79 to claim a 3-1 victory before he then did battle with Belgium’s Luca Brecel. Brecel has struggled for consistency of late but he has shown glimpses of his potential on occasions. However, he was unable to find a rhythm as Selby took total control of the match, losing just one point in the process.
The three-time world champion scored 72, 80 and 81 on his way to victory before he then won his third match of the day against Stuart Bingham. This time, Selby was forced to work for the win as he just scraped through via a 3-2 scoreline.
He will now take on Allister Carter during Thursday’s morning session and he is 1.53 to triumph, with Carter the 2.40 outsider. Selby will finish the group stages with matches against Ryan Day and Graeme Dott.
