Selby desperate to make Masters statement
Share:

Mark Selby is keen to go far in the Dafabet Masters after his recent struggles in the Triple Crown events.

The world number one went out in the first round of the Masters 12 months ago and has fallen at the first hurdle in both major events since.

Selby, who was beaten 6-3 by amateur James Cahill in the UK Championship earlier this season, is a three-time Masters winner but his last success came six years ago.

“The UK Championship was a big disappointment for me. Before that 2018 had been okay if not spectacular like some previous seasons,” Selby told the Daily Star.

“And I will be looking to put that right in the Masters.

“I would love to win it again, although I have won it three times and they were memorable nights, the last of those seems a while ago now.”

The ‘Jester from Leicester’ has one tournament win so far this season after picking up the China Championship and Selby can be backed at 8.50 to win the Dafabet Masters outright.

Selby takes on Stephen Maguire in the first round on Wednesday and a 6-3 Selby win is 7.00 in the Price Boosts.

Selby is 1.53 to hit the highest break in the match and 13.00 to manage three centuries.

If Selby manages to overcome Maguire he will face either Judd Trump or Kyren Wilson in the second round while the 35-year-old cannot come up against 2.88 tournament favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan or defending champion Mark Allen until the final.
