Ronnie O’Sullivan admits he is enjoying his snooker at the minute as he prepares to try and win the English Open after reaching the final four. The five-time world champion was too strong for Jack Lisowski on Friday as he won his quarter-final 5-2. O’Sullivan’s victory ensures he moves into the 65th ranking semi-final of his career but he will have to dig deep to get past world number 14 Anthony McGill.
McGill has never lost a last-four match but O’Sullivan has a formidable record in the final four of events, having not lost once for five years. He was forced onto the back foot against Lisowski after he made a break of 128 but he failed to build on several good chances. O’Sullivan then won three frames in a row to take a 3-1 lead and he kept himself in front as he looks to equal John Higgins’ record of 29 ranking event wins. Speaking after his victory, the 41-year-old admits his focus is on winning and adding to his legacy.
He told World Snooker: “I haven’t been winning as much these past two years, and so I am excited getting to this stage of the tournament. I want to win it now. “I am over the moon to be into the semi-finals. Jack is a talented player, and plays like he is practising and scores quickly. He is a lovely guy, I want him to do well.” McGill is available at odds of 3/1 with Dafabet, with O’Sullivan 1/4 favourite and he can be backed at odds of 4/1 to win 6-2.
