Rocket in control of Bingham clash
Share:

Ronnie O’Sullivan looks well placed to make it through to the semi-finals of the Tour Championship after establishing a 6-2 lead over Stuart Bingham on Tuesday.

The Rocket, who recorded the 1000th century break of his career en route to winning the Players Championship earlier this month, picked up where he left off in Llandudno, recording a break of 111 to take the opening frame of the match.

The five-time world champion then edged further in front, before breaks of 55 and 90 from Bingham made sure the two players went into the mid-session interval all-square at 2-2.

However, it was O’Sullivan that dominated the rest of the evening, claiming four frames on the spin with breaks of 113, 121 and 89 and he will now be looking to seal his place in the semi-finals as quickly as possible when play resumes on Wednesday.

O’Sullivan, who can return to the top of the world rankings by winning this week’s tournament, is priced at 1.02 to go on and beat Bingham, who is available at 13.00.

The 43-year-old will certainly fancy his chances of doing just that, as he has won 15 of his 18 previous meetings with Bingham, including their most recent showdown at this year’s Masters.

Should the Englishman make it through to the last four then he will face either Judd Trump or Mark Williams for a place in the final. Those two players are level at 4-4 following their opening session and their match looks like it could well go the distance when play resumes on Wednesday.
