Robertson to relax ahead of Preston final

Neil Robertson hopes to put the seal on an excellent season with victory in the Players Championship on Sunday.

The 37-year-old booked his spot in the final with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over England’s Judd Trump on Friday and will face the winner of the Ronnie O’Sullivan – Mark Allen clash.

The Australian was 3-1 down at the Guild Hall but rallied to win five of the last six frames and move into yet another ranking final, and he admitted that staying focused was key to his triumph.

“Judd looked in great touch and not much was going right for me,” he said. “I had to keep believing in myself and show him I was up for the fight.”

Robertson, who won the 2010 World Championship in Sheffield, has enjoyed a decent campaign to date, with victory in the Riga Masters and Welsh Open, and winning this weekend would see him claim three ranking titles in a season for the first time in his career.

He now has the luxury of being able to rest on Saturday before tuning back in for the final, and the world number eight is happy to switch off to ensure he is in the best possible state to try and claim the spoils.

“I won’t watch the other semi-final tomorrow, when I get a day off I prefer to chill out and forget about snooker,” he added. “I’ll relax, do a bit of practice and get ready for the final.

“This will be my fourth ranking event final of the season so it has been a fantastic season whatever happens.”

Robertson is 2.50 to lift the trophy, with O’Sullivan on offer at 1.91 and Allen priced at 6.00.
