Jimmy Robertson has made it through to the first ranking event final of his career after beating Mark King in the last four of the European Masters on Saturday.
The Englishman, who first turned professional in 2002 and has made it through to the Crucible stages of the World Championship on four occasions, claimed a 6-4 victory over King in Belgium to reach his first ever final.
The world number 35 underlined his intentions in the very first frame of the match with a break of 99 and further knocks of 82 and 132 helped him move into a 5-3 lead and within touching distance of victory. Nerves could easily have come in to play for Robertson at that stage, but he came out on top in a scrappy 10th frame to seal his place in Sunday’s final.
Robertson will face fellow Englishman Joe Perry in the final after he booked his place in the showpiece with a 6-3 victory over Anthony Hamilton.
Perry holds the better record in the head-to-head meetings between the pair as he has won four of their six previous clashes, including their most recent showdown at the Northern Ireland Open in 2016.
However, Robertson will take heart from the fact he has beaten the likes of Anthony McGill and Mark Allen en route to this week’s final, although his last victory over Perry came at the China Open over five years ago.
