Robertson faces Maflin in Cardiff
Share:

Neil Robertson is the favourite to land the Welsh Open at 2.75 and he comes up against Norway’s Kurt Maflin in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Robertson was taken to a decider in his first match on Thursday by Paul Davison but hit his stride later in the day as he crushed Cypriot Michael Georgiou 4-0 in the last 16.

Maflin secured an impressive win over Belgium’s Luca Brecel earlier in the tournament but needs to reverse the form book if he is to overcome Robertson.

‘The Thunder from Down Under’ has won the four most recent meetings between the two players and thrashed Maflin 5-1 in the German Masters just over two weeks ago.

Maflin is 3.80 to win and Robertson can be backed at 1.25, while the world number 10 is 4.75 to claim another 5-1 success.

Joe O’Connor is the lowest-ranked player left in the tournament as he sits outside the top 100 and he will face a huge test against John Higgins in the last eight.

The Englishman has secured some impressive victories at the Motorpoint Arena and should not be discounted, with O’Connor 5.50 to come out on top. O’Connor saw off Kyren Wilson in the second round and overcame Ding Junhui in the last 16.

Higgins, who is 3.40 to win the Welsh Open outright, is 1.13 to win their quarter-final match on Friday or 4.00 to win 5-2.
