Neil Robertson is relishing the chance to gauge his form ahead of the World Championship when he takes on Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final of the Tour Championship this weekend.
Robertson, 37, advanced to the showpiece with a 10-6 semi-final victory over Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen in Llandudno.
It was touch-and-go at one stage, with Allen rallying from 6-3 down to level affairs before the 2010 world champion reasserted his dominance to reel off four successive frames and set up a meeting with ‘The Rocket’.
The players will descend on Sheffield next month for the world’s greatest event and the ‘Thunder From Down Under’ feels playing the world number two over a longer format will give him a chance to see where he is at heading to the Crucible, having been thrashed 10-4 the last time they met.
“I’m really excited to play Ronnie in a best-of-25, that doesn’t happen too often apart from the World Championships,” he told ITV4.
“It’s a fantastic test to see where I’m at going into Sheffield because the last final we played it didn’t matter who was the opponent, you can’t play any better than that.”
Robertson has won both the Riga Masters and the Welsh Open this season, while also reaching the final of the International Championship.
Winning a third title before the trip to South Yorkshire would be a shot in the arm and he is hoping for a bit of help from his opponent.
“Hopefully, he drops down from that level and gives me a few more chances,” added the Aussie ace.
Robertson is priced at 3.30 to win the match, with O’Sullivan on offer at 1.33.
