Ashley Carty, Kishan Hirani, Andy Lee and Thor Chuan Leong have ended Qualifying School 3 with victories to claim two-year World Snooker Tour cards. The foursome headed into the final day of the 2018 Q School event knowing that they required just two more victories to secure their place on the pro circuit.
Chuan Leong ensured he would be in contention on the final day by defeating Kristjan Helgason 4-1 in the last 32. The Malaysian breezed past Ireland’s Greg Casey 4-0 in Thursday’s morning session to move to within touching distance of a Tour card. He went up against China’s Fang Xiongman, who saw off Lancashire potter Farakh Ajaib in the last 32, and Chuan Leong once again asserted his dominance to prevail 4-1 in the final and cap off a wonderful week.
Meanwhile, Carty overcame Chinese opposition in the early session, beating Wang Yuchen 4-1, to set up a final tie with Indian Himanshu Dinesh Jain. Jain came through his clash with Chen Zhe in the last 16 but he fell at the final hurdle as Carty edged him out 4-2.
Lee had to compete in an English double header on Thursday as he beat both Andy Hicks and Kuldesh Johal 4-2 to reclaim his place on the pro tour. Wales’ Hirani completed the set on the final day of Q School with back-to-back victories over Michael Judge and Simon Bedford.
