Perry wants winning feeling
Share:

Joe Perry has made it through to the final of European Masters on Sunday and he is determined to win just the second ranking event title of his career.

The world number 25 had already seen off the likes of Kyren Wilson and Tian Pengfei in Belgium before he came up against fellow veteran Anthony Hamilton in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The two players shared the opening four frames of the match before Hamilton edged himself in front after completing a clutch clearance of 67. That break could easily have demoralised Perry, but it actually had the opposite effect, as the Englishman won the next four frames in a row to clinch a 6-3 victory.

Perry is through to his fifth ranking-event final, although his only previous tournament victory was at the Players Championship in 2015 when he beat Mark Williams 4-3.

The 44-year-old’s opponent in Sunday’s showpiece is compatriot Jimmy Robertson and he is determined to secure a victory that would see him move back into the top 16 of the world rankings and qualify for the upcoming Champion of Champions.

“It was always going to be tough. Anthony is a great player,” Perry told World Snooker. “I really enjoyed the game but I got a bit edgy.

“My whole career has been driven by the same thing and that is winning. I don’t worry about the money. If you win you get rewarded heavily and that comes with the job.

“If you win tournaments you normally get in the top 16. I know all these benefits come with it but tomorrow it will all be about winning the final and getting a trophy.”

Perry is priced at 1.40 to win the match, while Robertson, who beat Mark King to book his place in the final, is available at 2.80.
