Ronnie O’Sullivan has made it through to the final of the Champion of Champions for the fifth time after beating Shaun Murphy 6-3 in the last four.
The Rocket has been the dominant force since the tournament was reestablished in 2013, as he has not only reached the final at the Ricoh Arena five times, but he has also claimed overall glory on two occasions in 2013 and 2014.
The five-time world champion had already seen off the likes of Stuart Bingham and John Higgins en route to the last four and he had too much for Murphy in what was a high-quality semi-final encounter.
Indeed, the 42-year-old was never behind during the match and he rounded off his victory in style by recording three-century breaks from the final four frames.
O’Sullivan admitted after the match that he had felt nervous during his victory over Murphy and he was ultimately relieved to get through to what is his second final of the season.
“I feel relieved to get over the line because I didn’t have the cue ball under complete control,” the O’Sullivan told the world snooker website.
“That caused some nerves in my game, but my competitive instinct kicked in.”
The world number three will now face Kyren Wilson in the final of the Champion of Champions on Sunday after he beat Mark Allen 6-5 in Saturday’s other semi-final.
O’Sullivan is priced at 1.33 to win that match, while Wilson is available at 3.25.
