Neil Robertson has bounced back from his failure to qualify for next month’s Masters after securing an impressive 4-0 victory over Rod Lawler in the first round of the Dafabet Scottish Open. The 2010 world champion will miss the tournament at Alexandra Palace for the first time in 11 years after his inconsistent start to the season meant he failed to qualify.
The Australian has only reached the quarter-finals of one ranking event to date this term, although he had still been in with a chance of qualifying heading into the recent UK Championship, but his third round exit, coupled with Ryan Day’s run to the semi-finals, meant he ultimately missed out. However, the world number 20 has now bounced back from his failure to qualify by recording a resounding 4-0 victory over Lawler in Glasgow, with his performance including breaks of 143 and 113. Robertson admitted after the match that he cannot afford to dwell on his Masters disappointment and he must instead focus on returning to top form. The 12-time ranking winner told World Snooker: “There are plenty of other tournaments.
The Masters is obviously one of the Triple Crown events and I have such a great record at Alexandra Palace as well and have never been beaten before the quarter-finals. “The most important thing is I am enjoying my snooker again. I miss out on it, but I am sure I will be back next year.” Next up for Robertson is a second-round clash with Liam Highfield in Glasgow and he is priced at 1/4 to secure a victory from that contest, while his English opponent is available at 14/5.
