Neil Robertson insists he’s happy with his overall form at the Dafabet Scottish Open although he would like to win a few more scrappy frames. The Aussie potter is looking to put last week’s disappointment of failing to qualify for the Masters in London next month behind him by claiming a ranking event win on Sunday evening in Glasgow. Robertson, world champion in 2010, completed his set of snooker’s Triple Crown events when he tasted a first UK Championship success in 2013.
However, defeat to Ryan Day in York last week ensured that the Welshman, not Robertson, secured his berth at the prestigious invite-only Masters at Alexandra Palace in January. Ranked number 20 in the world, Robertson misses out on the Masters for the first time in 11 years although having already tasted silverware this season at the Hong Kong Masters, he isn’t short on form. Robertson faces a quarter-final against Xiao Guodong in Glasgow on Friday and is relatively happy with his current situation. “I’m really enjoying playing at the moment. I think I showed that at the UK Championship,” he told World Snooker. “Every time I get in the balls I look like I am going to clear the table. It is just about being a little bit tidier in the scrappy frames.”
Robertson is 1/2 to get past Guodong on Friday and 13/2 to win the Dafabet Scottish Open title on Sunday evening. Scotland’s hopes of home success are still going strong, with Stephen Maguire facing Judd Trump in the last eight on Friday and John Higgins squaring up to Ronnie O’Sullivan in a mouthwatering clash later in the day. O’Sullivan is tournament favourite at 15/8 while Higgins is 4/1 for Scottish Open glory.
