Shaun Murphy managed to edge out a thrilling encounter at the Tempodrom to beat Ryan Day and progress through to the semi-finals of the German Masters. In a nervy match that swayed one way then the other, proceedings were deadlocked at 3-3 before Welshman Day looked to have pulled away when putting himself within one frame of a semi-final place in Berlin.
However the 35-year-old Murphy, who reached the final of the German Masters in 2015, produced a fine comeback to claim the final two sets to book his place in the last four. Murphy will now go on to face the Scot Graeme Dott, who produced the most remarkable of comebacks to secure his place in the semi-finals. Dott, who looked impressive on his way to the quarter-finals, could have gone out of the competition with a whimper as he found himself trailing Xiao Guodong 4-0.
However the ‘Pocket Dynamo’ showed great character to go on a win five consecutive frames to beat his Chinese opponent and set up an England v Scotland showdown with Murphy in the semi-finals. On the other side of the draw Judd Trump has secured his place in the last four with a 5-3 win over Ding Junhui. Trump will now go on to face the Welshman Mark Williams in the last four in Berlin, after he overcame Jimmy Robertson in their last-eight clash.
