Wales’ Michael White will be up against it when he plays his first match in the Champion of Champions on Tuesday as he prepares to do battle with Marco Fu. The world No.27 was last seen in October after he tasted defeat to Switzerland’s Alexander Ursenbacher at the English Open. The 26-year-old was outclassed on that occasion with a 5-0 defeat leaving him disappointed after a good run. Despite the setback, White has looked to have improved his game this season and some strong performances have not gone unnoticed.
He recorded a comfortable victory to secure his place at the Shanghai Masters, while he reached the quarters of the English Open. White is priced at 7/5 to beat Fu, with the world No.8 the overwhelming favourite at odds of 57/100. Fu comes into the event in mixed form, losing in the first round of the English Open to Tian Pengfei. However, he did qualify for the Shanghai Masters after beating Boonyarit Kaettikun. Tuesday’s other game sees an all-English battle between Shaun Murphy and Mark King. Murphy is the 2/5 favourite, with King priced at 9/5 and it is hard to argue against Murphy’s chances.
The 35-year-old reached the fourth round of the English Open and the third of the International Championship. On the other hand, King has struggle of late and he has won just three of his last seven matches in all competitions. Murphy will be confident of reaching the next round and a 4-2 victory for him is available at odds of 3/1.
