Maximum magic for Robertson in Cardiff
Share:

Australia’s Neil Robertson made a perfect maximum break on day two of the Welsh Open in Cardiff as he breezed past Northern Ireland’s Jordan Brown in a 4-1 win. The ‘Thunder From Down Under’ made the 147 break in frame four as he opened up a 3-1 lead.

The 2010 world champion was notching his fourth career maximum and, having been ill over the previous fortnight, Robertson was particularly pleased with the way he held himself together.

“I haven’t been putting in huge amounts of hours on the practice table, so the pressure was probably more intense [than normal],” he told World Snooker.

“Then it is just about trusting your technique and not taking too long on any shots. I was really happy with the pace I maintained throughout the break.”

Robertson would then complete his win with a 140 total clearance, backing up the maximum in fine style. Having been left in the balls by a loose safety from Brown, he admits thoughts of back-to-back 147s did enter his mind, though he was just keen to wrap up the match as quickly as he could.

“Even though it was definitely on, I took a blue fairly early on in the frame, just to settle myself down and make sure I was focused on winning the match,” he revealed.

Gary Wilson is next up for Robertson on Wednesday evening. He is 1.22 to prevail, with Wilson priced at 4.20.

Getting his mind refocused won’t be a worry against a potentially dangerous opponent.

“That won’t be a problem. Gary’s a great player, he’s not scared of playing top players and he’s very dangerous is in own right,” said Robertson.
