Mark Williams has booked his place the final of the German Masters after an emphatic victory over Judd Trump on Saturday. The Welshman is enjoyed one of his best ever seasons and he made easy work of Trump to prevail 6-1 in Berlin. Williams is on course to pick up a second ranking title of the campaign, having already triumphed at the Northern Ireland Open, which ended a six-year drought.
The 42-year-old boasts a total of 19 career titles and he will need to use all of that experience on Sunday when he comes up against Graeme Dott for the top prize of £80,000. The two-time World champion opened up a 3-0 lead against Trump, who struggled to find any rhythm throughout the match. Trump did hit back to win the fourth frame, although it was plain sailing from that point for Williams as he went on to wrap up the win.
Williams admitted that he wasn’t at his best but insists he is keen to make the most of his opportunity to pick up another piece of silverware and hopes his strong form can continue. “I didn’t play too well but Judd looked nervous from the start, maybe he expected to steam-roller me,” said Williams. “I managed to keep things tight and get on top, I knew he would go for crazy balls. He seemed to give up towards the end. There were a couple of scrappy frames that could have gone either way. My safety was good. “I can’t believe I’m in another final. I’ll keep riding the wave until it comes crashing down.”
Williams is priced at 2/5 to come out on top in Sunday’s showpiece at Tempodrom, while Dott can be backed at 9/5 to claim the win.
