Judd Trump has lost for the first time since early April after Mark Allen hammered the World Champion 6-1 in the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals.
The World number one put together an impressive 13-match winning run which saw him lift the World Championship and International Championship titles, but all that has come to an end in China.
Allen was in good form during the game as he defeated Judd Trump with ease, who was far from his brilliant best against the Northern Irishman.
The Pistol has an excellent history against the Ace in the Pack, extending his winning-record to 13-10 with the big win in Shanghai, as he secures his place in the semi-finals against whoever emerges from the second quarter-final fixture.
Trump showed only a spare of the form he has shown in recent time, making a century (109) in the fourth frame to keep his hopes alive, but they lasted only for a short time as Allen rattled off the final three frames after the interval.
The Pistol may not have made a century in the match, but breaks of 63, 62, 55, 73 and 69 made up an excellent display from the 33-year-old.
It continues an impressive start to the season for Allen who has only entered two events so far (excluding the World Cup) and has reached the semi-finals of both after a run to the last four of the International Championship. Allen once had a shot to the finals in Shanghai back in 2014, but he lost to Stuart Bingham 10-3, and he will be aiming to go one better this time around.
Meanwhile, Trump will have to return to the practice table and prepare for competitive action at the China Championship beginning from September 23.
This defeat marks the World Champion’s first loss since a shock first-round exit at the hands of Robbie Williams at the China Open back in April.
Below are the quarter-finals results:
Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-5 Kyren Wilson
Barry Hawkins 2-6 Neil Robertson
Shaun Murphy 6-1 Jack Lisowski
Mark Allen 6-1 Judd Trump
