Stephen Maguire knows he will be facing a ‘man in form’ when he takes on Judd Trump in the quarter-finals of the German Masters on Friday.
World number 15 Maguire booked his place in the last eight following a relatively comfortable 5-1 victory over Robert Milkins, who needed to win the match to have any chance of qualifying for next week’s World Grand Prix.
Maguire felt the extra pressure on his opponent helped him emerge triumphant from the match, as he recorded breaks of 81 and 82 en route to sealing his quarter-final place.
“I’m happy with my results here though I can still improve,” Maguire told reporters.
“I knew Robert needed to win tonight to get into the event next week and I was glad because if I was in that position I’d feel extra pressure. It gave me a bit of extra confidence knowing he needed to win.
“Maguire will now face Englishman Trump in the last eight and he knows he will be in for a tough match against the world number five, who has won The Masters and the Northern Ireland Open over recent months.
“Judd Trump is the man in form, he has played well all season and I don’t think many people were surprised when he won the Masters,” Maguire continued.
“He has given me a few bashings over the last couple of years so I’ll need to step it up.”
Maguire has lost his last seven meetings with Trump, with his last success against ‘The Juddernaut’ coming when they clashed in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open back in 2015.
The Scot is, however, priced at 3.40 to claim the spoils on Friday, while Trump is available at 1.30 to advance through to the semi-finals.
