Thor Chuan Leong continues his quest for a two-year tour card on the Main Tour with a fourth-round Q School clash against Andy Lee at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton. Leong, who reached a career-high ranking of 85 in June 2017, has looked impressive in qualifying so far after disposing of Simon Bedford, Brandon Hall and Charlie Walters in the earlier rounds.
The 30-year-old, a bronze medallist at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games when playing doubles, has dropped just three frames over his first three matches and made three breaks over 50. Next up for the Malaysian is a clash against Lee, who defeated Scotland’s Fraser Patrick 4-1 in the last round, and this is the first meeting between the two players. The 37-year-old from Hong Kong has only dropped one frame from his previous two games after entering the event at round two and he looks in good shape heading into the contest. Leong, who has made seven centuries during his career, is the 2/5 favourite to advance into the fifth round whilst Lee is the 7/4 outsider.
Elsewhere, Sam Baird goes up against Barry Pinches in an all-English affair whilst Welshman Jak Jones takes on another Englishman in the shape of Shane Castle. There is also an all-Chinese affair as Hu Hao takes on Ning Kang. The latter is the 6/5 outsider to move into the next round whilst his compatriot is the 3/5 favourite. India’s Laxman Rawat is also targeting a place in round five but he will need to get past China’s Lu Ning, who has beaten Callum Costello, David Nelson and Daniel Kandi in the tournament so far.
