Kyren Wilson believes a big win is just around the corner after making a strong start at the UK Championship in York. The Englishman knocked in two centuries on his way to a comfortable 6-1 win over Sean O’Sullivan and will now meet Yu Delu in the last 64 at the Barbican Centre. Wilson has enjoyed a strong season, reaching the finals at both the World Open and the English Open but is still to make a breakthrough this time around.
In fact, his only previous ranking win came all the way back in 2015, when he beat Judd Trump 10-9 in the final of the Shanghai Masters. With him now through to the televised rounds, the 25-year-old believes he is finally ready to add some silverware to his trophy cabinet. “I feel like a trophy is missing. I’m knocking on the door,” Wilson told the BBC. “I’m playing really well and have had two finals. “I have been a lot more consistent than last year and I am coming into the tournament with a lot of form.” He added: “It’s nice to the get the first round out of the way. The BBC TV stages start now and you are in the tournament properly.
It’s a completely different buzz around the place. “When you have the TV cameras and the commentators in, there is even more of a buzz and you feel it.” Despite his upturn in form, Wilson can still be found at 28/1 to win The Masters in 2018, while he is available at a slightly longer 33/1 for the World Championship.
