Judd Trump hits top form in Coventry
Share:

Judd Trump appears to be the man to beat in Group Four of the Championship League as he won all four of his matches on Wednesday to ease into the semi-finals. The Englishman only dropped one frame as he guaranteed his place in the next stage by recording victories against Ali Carter, Liang Wenbo, Shaun Murphy, and Tom Ford, while he was also handed a walkover success after Mark Allen withdrew from the competition.

Trump also recorded three-century breaks during Wednesday’s action, although he still has one group match to play against Barry Hawkins before he can fully turn his attention to Thursday’s play-off action. The 28-year-old will certainly fancy his chances of winning the group, as he is already a three-time winner of the Championship League, most recently in 2016 when he beat Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final. Hawkins and Murphy are currently in a tie for second place in the group after they both won two matches on Wednesday, while Wenbo occupies the final play-off position.

However, the final three play-off places remain very much up for grabs, as both Ford and Carter are still in contention to reach the next stage, while whoever finishes bottom of the group will be eliminated from the competition altogether. The final group matches and the play-offs will be contested on Thursday, but it certainly appears Trump, who is priced at 6/1 to win the tournament as a whole, is the man to beat at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.
