Kyren Wilson proved he is the man to beat with victory over Ding Junhui in the final of the 2018 Six-red World Championship.
The Englishman claimed the Paul Hunter Classic in August and has now backed up that Germany triumph by seeing off all-comers in Bangkok to land the shortened-format title.
The world number eight was dominant throughout the final and pulled off an 8-4 success in the Far East as the man from Kettering gained revenge from the last time the pair met 12 months ago.
Ding hammered Wilson in the final of the World Open trophy in front of his own fans last September but it was his turn to be runner-up this time. The Chinese star missed a pink that could have led to a clearance in the opening frame but he soon established a 2-1 lead at the Bangkok Convention Center only for Wilson to level affairs in the fourth – the catalyst for a five-frame winning run that saw him move to within two frames of victory.
Ding hit back to close the gap to just two but it was too little too late as ‘The Warrior’ claimed the £80,000 first prize.
It has been a superb start to the season for Wilson, who was a finalist in last season’s Masters while also reaching the last four at the Crucible. He has been priced at 19.00 to win this season’s Masters while the talented cue-man can be backed at the same price to secure a first World Championship title in Sheffield.
