Scotland’s John Higgins proved no match for Matthew Selt in Sunday’s semi-final at the Indian Open.
The duo met in the final four in Kochi, but it is Selt that will be competing for the trophy and £50,000 top prize this weekend.
Selt looks like the man to beat this week after reaching new heights in his career, with Sunday’s match his first semi-final at a ranking event during a 17-year career.
The 33-year-old beat Tom Ford, Joe Swail and Oliver Lines on his way to the quarter-finals before he battled past Lu Ning 4-3.
Higgins had claimed his game was in a good place earlier in the week after beating the likes of Duane Jones, Hossein Vafaei, James Cahill and Li Hang.
However, he is now on his way home after a slow start in India.
Selt made a superb start with a break of 103 before Higgins pulled it back at 1-1. Selt then won the next two frames and despite a late response from Higgins he sealed the win with a break of 84.
Higgins will now be forced to go back to the drawing board, but his performances have improved of late. He reached the quarter-finals of the Welsh Open and he will be looking to respond ahead of the World Championships.
The 43-year-old four-time winner is priced at 21.00 to win the title at the Crucible but he is considered one of the outsiders with Ronnie O’Sullivan the 4.33 favourite and Judd Trump also a contender at 4.75.
