Marco Fu appears to be putting his eye troubles behind him as he prepares to face Mark Davies at the Kaspersky Riga Masters on Saturday. The 40-year-old managed to overcome Xiao Guodong in the first round of the Latvian competition with a comfortable 4-1 victory against his Chinese opponent.
Fu previously had real issues with an eye injury and was forced to take some time away from the table, but he appears to be heading back on the right track and is 81.00 to go all the way and win the next World Championship.
Speaking previously about his eye problems, he said: “I’ve had discomfort in my eye and the retinal degradation of my left eye was determined after medical examination and diagnosis.
“I have undergone laser surgery so no worries! The doctor has recommended that I take a rest to avoid any chance of a retinal detachment.”
Fu is 1.53 to overcome Davies, with the Englishman at 2.30 to progress to the next round. Davies himself impressed in his opening round of the Riga Masters and secured a 4-2 victory over the Belgian Luca Brecel to set up Saturday’s encounter with Fu.
Saturday throws up some intriguing encounters as Mark Allen and Allister Carter get set to go toe to toe. Allen is available at 1.67 to come out on top, while Carter is 2.15 to reach the next round.
