Marco Fu takes on Graeme Dott in the Six Red World Championship on Thursday and looks set to continue his bid for the title in Thailand. Fu crushed Ding Junhui 6-1 in the previous round and after dispatching of the holder, the Hong Kong star can down former world champion Dott. The 39-year-old enjoyed a solid season last year with big performances in the Triple Crown events, reaching the quarter-finals at the Crucible and the semi-finals in both the UK Championship and The Masters.
Fu is 22/1 to win this year’s edition of the UK Championship and Ding is 17/2. The world number six fell in the second round of the China Championship in his only ranking event so far this season but did reach the semi-finals on home soil in the Hong Kong Masters and looks set for another big campaign. The 6-1 victory over Ding is a real statement of intent from the three-time ranking event winner and he can claim another big scalp by downing Dott on Thursday. Dott, who claimed the top prize in snooker in 2006, only progressed beyond the second round once last season in any event and has already matched that this year with a third-round exit in the China Championship.
The 40-year-old Scot can be a tricky player to come up against but Fu seems to have the ‘Pocket Dynamo’ worked out as he leads the head-to-head 4-2, although Dott did win their most recent meeting 4-3 in Latvia last year.
