In-form Wilson to book India spot
Share:

Kyren Wilson marked his time in Poland recently with a gold medal and the in-form Englishman is expected to keep that form going in the 2017 Indian Open qualifiers. Wilson recently took part in the World Games for the first time and he managed to bring home a gold medal, having defeated compatriot Ali Carter 3-1 in the final. It was a fantastic performance from the 25-year-old and he will be aiming to keep the momentum going when attempting to book his spot in the main draw of the Indian Open, which runs from September 12-16.

The world number 11, who is hot on the heels of Mark Allen in 10th position, goes head-to-head with Thailand’s Boonyarit Kaettikun on Wednesday in a qualifier for the ranking event. Kaettikun, 21, will be hoping to get the better of Wilson and start off what could be a hat-trick of qualifying wins in the space of a week. The Thai also takes on England’s Joe Perry for a spot at the European Masters from August 3-4 before facing Tom Ford in qualifying for the World Open next week. Wilson appears to be hitting form just at the right time and will be looking to go one better than his runner-up finish at the Indian Open last year, losing 5-2 to Scotland’s Anthony McGill in the final.

The 2015 Shanghai Masters champion, who is priced at 33/1 to win the World Championship next year, is the firm 2/15 favourite to clinch victory while Kaettikun is a 9/2 outsider. Scot Stephen Maguire is also in action, taking on Chinese amateur Hu Hao, while England’s Robbie Williams faces fellow Englishman Rod Lawler.
