Graeme Dott has booked his spot in Sunday’s German Masters final after showing incredible spirit and resilience to defeat Shaun Murphy in Berlin. The world number 28 is now set to feature in his first ranking event final in eight years courtesy of his triumph against Murphy. The pair put on an enthralling show in front of a packed house at Tempodrom and Dott’s victory has handed him a final showdown with Mark Williams.
Murphy made the early movements to edge 4-3 ahead as he posted breaks of 98, 96, 55 and 69, although Dott kept his focus and battled back in the second half of their clash. Dott, who is targeting just a third ranking title, put on breaks of 74, 66 and 121 to move clear and see out the match 6-4. The Scot has not enjoyed the best season prior to the German Masters, having failed to make it beyond the last 16 at a ranking event, but he could well end the weekend with a top prize of £80,000 if he holds his nerve in the first-to-nine-frames final.
The 40-year-old’s last victory against Sunday’s opponent Williams came in 2012 at the Euro Player Tour Championship, having come away on the losing side in their last five meetings. Williams can be backed at 2/5 to win the German Masters after easing past Judd Trump 6-1 in their semi-final clash on Saturday and he will be confident of picking up another victory against Dott, who is priced at 9/5 to claim the title.
