Ireland’s Ken Doherty will be hoping to maintain his recent form when he takes on Ross Muir in the Paul Hunter Classic on Friday. The 47-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign so far and he will be eager to maintain his current form and reach the next round of the tournament.
Doherty started the season with a strong showing in the Riga Masters before he was eventually knocked out by Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the semi-finals. Despite being knocked out of the China Championship by Shaun Murphy, the 28-year veteran then qualified for the Indian Open. He also beat Robbie Williams in the 2017 World Open before beating Barry Hawkins in the European Masters. Doherty is priced at 2/5 to win his match, with Muir 15/8 to claim the win. Friday’s play in Furth, Germany, will also see Sam Baird do battle with Jimmy Robertson, while Gerard Greene faces off against Craig Steadman.
Greene’s clash with Steadman could be a close affair and the betting prices suggest it with Greene 7/10 to win, while Steadman is priced at 23/20. Later in the day, Hamza Akbar faces Kuldesh Johal with the former the 2/5 favourite, while Zhao Xintong takes on Reanne Evans. Although it is still early days in the tournament, wins could give the players plenty of confidence with only five out of the world top 16 playing at the event.
