Ding Junhui showed incredible character to battle back from a first-session deficit to lead Judd Trump 9-7 heading into the final session of their last-16 tie at the World Championship.
Trump held a 5-3 advantage heading into the second session at the Crucible on Sunday but he faces a fight to keep his hopes of progress alive.
Ding made a positive start to Sunday’s action, winning the opening two frames to draw level, before Trump started to settle in.
The Englishman took the 11th frame thanks to a break of 90 but Ding levelled once again going into the mid-session.
World number 10 Ding compiled a break of 55 after the restart to edge ahead for the first time in the tie but Trump struck back once again.
But Ding, who lost the 2016 final to Mark Selby, went on to take control of the clash by winning the final two frames of the day.
Ding can be backed at 1.50, while Trump is priced at 2.50 to win the tie.
Former world champions Stuart Bingham and John Higgins will also return to the table on Monday after a tense couple of sessions.
They were tied at 4-4 when resuming play on Sunday and couldn’t be separated by the end of the day after claiming another four frames each.
Bingham was in danger of letting the game slip away when conceding two frames to fall 6-5 behind but he showed his class by attempted to hit a maximum break.
He went through the first 14 reds with blacks, however, he failed to slot home the final red and had to settle for 112.
The pair went on to trade frames for the remainder of the day and will need return to finish off the last 16 at 19:00 BST on Monday.
