England’s Stuart Bingham insists his game is in a good place after he beat Joe O’Connor to reach the final of the Welsh Open.
The five-time ranking event winner will play in his third Welsh Open final after a superb 6-2 win at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff on Saturday. He lifted the trophy in 2017 when beating Judd Trump, but he could not get the better of Stephen Maguire when they met in 2013.
On Saturday, both players took their time to settle into their rhythm and it was 1-1 after the first two frames.
Bingham then found his groove and a break of 107 put him in front before he extended that lead with a break of 100.
O’Connor fired back but Bingham proved his class by shooting breaks of 104, 125 and 67 to seal his place in the final. He will now face Neil Robertson in the showpiece and the 42-year-old insists his game is in the right place at the right time.
“I’ve been there done it and got the t-shirt. That was probably the difference in settling down,” Bingham told World Snooker.
“We had a couple of frames when we couldn’t pot a ball and then I went on a four-frame spurt when I couldn’t miss.
“I think when they make a mistake and you make a century, your opponent will start to second guess on 50/50 shots. It is like playing Ronnie, you know if you miss you are going to sit in your chair for the rest of the frame. My game is there and long may it continue.”
Bingham is 2.40 to win Sunday’s final, while Robertson is 1.53 favourite.
