Stuart Bingham is progressing nicely through the group stages of the six-Red World Championship in Bangkok. He has started off the competitions with two wins out of two and is almost certain of qualification through to the knockout stages.
With three group matches to be played, all best of nine frames, Bingham won on Monday, beating James Wattana 5-3 and followed that up with victory over the Israeli player Shachar Ruberg 5-1.
With just Mark King to play on Wednesday, Bingham looks likely to be one of the two players from Group C set to qualify for the knockout stages. The top two in each of the eight groups get through to the last 16, the ties then the best of 11 frames.
The final, taking place at the weekend, is the best of 15 frames and was won last year by Mark Williams, another who has won his first two games of this year’s competition and is set for the last 16.
Both of Group C’s final matches will be decisive in who goes through. King and Wattana have one victory each from their first two games. It looks to be just one of those qualifying but if King inflicts a heavy defeat on Bingham, it is possible that both of them could go through at the expense of Bingham.
Group D is more straightforward after the first two games with Graeme Dott and Kyren Wilson already through to the last 16. They have both won their opening two matches with Michael White and Marvin Lim Chun Kiat going out.
Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan is 5.00 to win the UK Championship this year with Stuart Bingham 34.00 and Mark Williams 13.00.
