Bingham continues winning run
Share:

England’s Stuart Bingham did enough to get past Norway’s Kurt Maflin on Sunday and maintain his hopes of glory at the Gibraltar Open this week.

The 42-year-old has enjoyed a solid tournament so far and advanced once again on Sunday morning. He opened the event with a win over Mike Dunn, before beating Anthony Hamilton 4-0.

Eden Sharav was denied 4-3 in the early hours of Sunday morning, with Bingham back to his best during the first session of the final day.

Maflin was unable to keep Bingham in check, with the latter triumphing 4-2 and looking in a good position to qualify for the Tour Championship. He will next take on China’s Zhou Yuelong as he tries to find form ahead of the China Open.

David Gilbert also moved another step closer to the Tour Championship after beating Wales’ Daniel Wells.

The world No.16 needs to reach the final and is looking fired up after winning his fourth match of the tournament. His reward will be a clash against Ryan Day, who battled past David Grace 4-3 on Sunday.

Day has already beaten Lukas Kleckers, Noppon Saengkham and Elliott Slesser and will fancy his chances of going all the way this weekend.

An all-Chinese battle will also take place in the quarter-finals as Tian Pengfei meets Lu Ning.

Tian knocked out Chinese star Yan Bingtao in the last 16 to advance, while Oliver Brown was unable to compete with Lu.

The last quarter-final sees Yuan Sijun take on Robert Milkins.
