Stuart Bingham is through to the second round of the Indian Open after a comfortable 4-1 win over Peter Lines. The 2015 world champion came through the tournament opener with relative ease although Lines threatened to make it competitive at 2-1.
Bingham won the final two frames to secure his spot in the second round, which will be an all-English affair as he will take on either world number 30 Gary Wilson or John Astley, who is ranked outside the top 100.
The 42-year-old has enjoyed a fairly successful campaign so far after winning the European Masters before reaching the last four of the UK Championship, where he lost in a deciding frame to Mark Allen.
The world number 14 appears to be finding a bit of form ahead of the season-ending World Championship as he reached the final of the Welsh Open and the quarter-finals of the Snooker Shoot-Out. The Indian Open offers the Essex man a chance to keep himself in form ahead of the Sheffield showpiece as he bids for a second world title.
Bingham is 41.00 to win the World Championships outright, Barry Hawkins is 23.00 and Dafabet Masters winner Judd Trump is 4.75. Lines’ son Oliver is in action on Wednesday as he takes on Fergal O’Brien and he is 1.95 to secure the win. O’Brien is the slight favourite at 1.80, with the Irishman 5.25 to win 4-2.
