Bingham boosted by maximum

Stuart Bingham is hoping to go all the way at the China Open after a maximum 147 break helped him ease past Peter Ebdon on Wednesday.

The players were tied at three frames each when the 2015 world champion potted 15 reds, 15 blacks and all the colours to put himself in with a chance of scooping the £27,000 bonus if his feat is not matched in the Far East this week.

It was the fifth maximum of the 42-year-old’s career and set up a last-16 showdown with veteran Englishman Rod Lawler.

Bingham has won the English Open and Gibraltar Open this season en route to 12th place in the rankings and, after his 147, is hoping for a bit more.

“To make a 147 on the TV table is brilliant,” he said. “I’m sure my wife and family will be pleased because we have just booked a holiday to Tenerife so hopefully that’s it paid for.

“I have had a great season with two titles, and it hasn’t finished yet.”

The Essex man is priced at 1.14 to reach the quarter-finals, with Lawler on offer at 5.50 and he will want to go deep in China with one eye on the upcoming World Championship in Sheffield.

Bingham is priced at 23.00 to triumph at the Crucible for a second time, with Ronnie O’Sullivan the 3.50 favourite ahead of Judd Trump at 5.50.

Trump has already been eliminated from the China Open, with John Higgins and Mark Williams other big-name stars to exit at the first-round stage.
