Ding Junhui was one of a number of big names that produced the goods to reach the third round of the Hong Rui Ma Yushan World Open on Tuesday night.
Home favourite Ding was pushed all the way in his contest with Chinese youngster Tuan Sijun and he trailed 2-0 at one point. However, breaks of 86, 87 and 115 eventually helped him found his groove and he won 5-3.
Speaking after the match, he told World Snooker: “Yuan played really well in the first half of the match. “After that he didn’t take his chances and he lost the advantage. I didn’t change my strategy when I was 3-1 down, I just tried to play my own game. After the interval I was a lot better.”
The defending champion will now do battle with Robert Milkins on Wednesday and he is 1.33 favourite to win, with Milkins 3.10 with Dafabet. England’s Judd Trump was also in action and he beat Martin O’Donnell 5-1 after breaks of 54, 84, 54 and 73. His reward will now be a clash with Gary Wilson and Trump to win 5-2 is priced at 4.50. Neil Robertson was also a winner on Tuesday and the Australian looks in a good position to win back-to-back rankings titles.
The Riga Masters champion cruised past Andy Lee 5-1 and he will now face Ricky Walden in the next round. World champion Mark Williams dispatched of Alexander Ursenbacher and his 5-1 win was a big statement in Yushan. China’s Yan Bingtao stormed to a 5-0 win over Stuart Carrington, while Michael Holt proved too much for Mark Davis.
