Judd Trump secured a comprehensive 10-4 win over Ronnie O’Sullivan in the Dafabet Masters final on Sunday.
Trump admits there were times when he doubted whether he would ever win another Triple Crown trophy after his victory over O’Sullivan at Alexandra Palace. The Bristolian had a tough route to the final as he came up against last year’s runner-up Kyren Wilson in the first round before seeing off former champions Mark Selby and Neil Robertson.
The 2011 UK Championship winner was in a great form since the start, leading 7-1 after the first session. He let his opponent score only 45 points in first four frames.
Both players started exchange frames during the evening session, although O’Sullivan made century breaks twice but World number five Trump made a good memory at his 1st final of the Masters by winning 10-4 at the end and collects £200,000 prize money.
“Absolutely amazing, it was a dream come true to win this event” Trump said “It’s very close to my home. I have an amazing support to play Ronnie in the final, to beat him in his own backyard is absolutely amazing.”
Trump agreed when asked if it was one of his best afternoon.
“Yeah, I couldn’t even dream last night to be 7-1 ahead. It’s unbelievable.
“I think I had to play well at the start because he got so much support. It can get very noisy and a quite intimidate place to be if you’re losing against him”
Trump is 6.00 to win the World Championship in May as he seeks the final major title missing from his collection. O’Sullivan is the 3.25 favourite to take the title at The Crucible in Sheffield.
